The pit orchestra is the ensemble that performs the music during our spring musical productions. Due to the professional-level demands of the orchestration and music arrangements, students may be selected to participate in the pit orchestra by audition only and must be willing to commit to extracurricular rehearsals and performances from November-March.
Please note that all musicals have different demands for instruments and levels of technical difficulty. The pit orchestra quite literally performs the same music heard on Broadway. For these reasons, students must re-audition each year that they wish to participate and are not guaranteed a spot based on participation from the previous year. Audition requirements will be posted in the Band Room each Fall after the announcement of that year's musical.
While the demands to gain acceptance to the pit orchestra are high, the reward and educational benefit of playing alongside professional musicians is unforgettable. Many of our students refer to their experiences in pit orchestra as a highlight of their high school careers.
