This work is being carried out by the Data Leaders Collective to support the Schools sector data capability grant scheme funded by the Department for Education (DfE). For the purpose of data protection legislation, the DfE is the data controller for the personal data processed as part of conducting a short survey with data professionals in the schools sector, and Potteries Educational Trust are the data processors. This survey will inform two projects that are funded by the DfE:
Data Leaders Collective - Data Capability Project
Summaries of the survey will also inform the DfE’s next steps and shape future direction of policy to support data skills and use in the schools sector.
We will use personal data; namely existing channels – via professional networks focused on data roles and data use in the schools and college sector. We will use these channels to supply data professionals with a link to a single online survey using a survey platform (Google Classroom). Completion of the survey will not be mandatory; all responses will be voluntary.
Your data will be held in accordance with the privacy policy of Google Education; your data will be stored on servers located in the UK.
The categories of your personal data that we will be using for this project are:
Role of the person completing the survey in the organisation
Name of contact
Email address of contact (related to their role at their organisation)
In order for our use of your personal data to be lawful, we need to meet one (or more) conditions in the data protection legislation. For the purpose of this project, the relevant condition is:
Your consent - where this is relied upon, you can ask to remove your consent at any time. You can do this by contacting the project via the contact form on the website
Your personal data will be available to the project partners. Your personal data will not be made available to DfE or any other external organisation.
The data processors will only keep your personal data up to 31 March 2024.
We will take necessary steps to keep your information safe. It will then be securely destroyed when it is no longer needed. We will keep your data for no longer than two years, but may delete or anonymise it before then.
If you want to know how long we keep your information, please write to DfE Departmental Records Officer using our secure online contact form.
