Grading Policy: Link to School Policy
In order to foster a growth mindset in our students, we allow students to learn from mistakes and use them as opportunities to grow.
Students will be allowed to redo some assignments at the teacher's discretion in order to bring up low scores. Test corrections will be offered to those with failing scores, allowing the student to bring up the score by half of the points lost.
Assignments
Each teacher will provide students with due dates for assignments. Students will be required to place this information into their planners. Any classwork not completed by the due date will need to be completed at home.
Students can work on paper assignments during recess on the shaded benches outdoors, with parent approval.
Absences
Students will be allowed extra time to make up work from absences. They will receive 2 school days for every day absent. Example: A student is out 3 days, so they are given a 6 SCHOOL day extension on the due date of any assignment due during those days.
We understand the value of time with families and that our students have a lot of extracurricular activities. For that reason, we do not assign homework. Students are given time in class to complete their work. If they are bringing a significant amount of work home, then it is because they did not use their class time appropriately, or they may need a little extra help that you can provide.
Each class has signature projects that we are so excited for every year. Each project will have its own set of expectations that will be communicated upfront and throughout the duration of the project. This includes how much time will be allocated both in class and at home.
Students are welcome to self-advocate by requesting to come to a teacher's class during recess or before/after school to get help or time on assignments with less distractions.
