A Newsletter for Families of Solar Preparatory School for Girls
A message from Principal Santos...
I want to extend a HUGE thanks to our PTA and all who made this last week such a meaningful experience for our Trailblazers. From our SBDM Meeting to our Orchestra Hauncert, Book Character day and the most amazing Trunk-or-Treat! We appreciate you and absoutely LOVED the joy and passion we saw in our students and staff members. This week is not as busy, but with Halloween, we are certain it will still be just as intense for everyone. With October behind us we will be moving into my personal favorite month of the year, November! I am a huge believer in gratitude and we lean into self-reflection and each component of our life that brings purpose, joy and learning.
Thank you for all those who have celebrated me this month for National Principal's Month. I could not think of a more amazing school to work at and I am grateful for each member of our Solar Community.
Mr. Velasquez has moved to another awesome DallasISD school, Dallas Hybrid and we are so excited for this new opportunity for him. He sends everyone his gratitude and if you would like to send him well wishes and messages of gratitude - you may email him at mvelasquez@dallasisd.org.
I am over the moon to announce that we have a NEW assistant principal, Ms. Rachel Bellcourt. She is absolutely incredible and I look forward to everyone getting to meet her. She will be at Coffee with the Principal this week and I look forward to giving her a warm community welcome. Please read more about her in the section below.
Have a wonderful week!

Meet Our NEW Assistant Principal...
Rachel Bellcourt
Mrs. Bellcourt is beyond thrilled to join the Solar family! She began her teaching career as a middle school teacher in Memphis and then moved back to her hometown of Chicago where she taught high school. Her husband's job moved them to Dallas in 2015, and she began teaching in Dallas ISD. Mrs. Bellcourt decided to widen her impact on the campus-level and received her Masters in Educational Leadership at SMU. She has five years of assistant principal experience in Dallas ISD and is very excited to step back into the role this year after taking a brief break with her two children. A mom of a Solar 1st Grader and a 3 year old son, Mrs. Bellcourt is passionate about empowering teachers and growing students to reach their full potential. She believes school should be a place of joy and positivity and loves the way Solar creates this environment for all students. Mrs. Bellcourt feels honored to work alongside Ms. Santos, Ms. Davis and the most amazing educators!
Fun Facts about Mrs. Bellcourt:
Loves to cook and host her friends & family
Enjoys reading and going to her book club
Loves going around Dallas with her family to favorite spots like the farmer's market, Klyde Warren Park and the Dallas Arboretum
We all want to wish Mr. Velasquez the best in his new position at Dallas Hybrid. If you would like to send him well wishes - you can email him at mvelasquez@dallasisd.org.
We look forward to an awesome year!

Unlike our Solar PTA who does a magnificent job hosting community events to engage our all of families and their Trailblazers, our foundation, Friends of Solar Prep hosts fundraisers specifically to continue to provide high quality educational experiences for our girls. These events are open to any donor from our community or outside the Solar community who is looking for a great cause.
The funds raised by FOSP go to support: teacher professional development, instructional and STEAM supplies, classroom supplies, student enrichment experiences like field trips and educational programming, library books and online platforms for our culture systems such as PikMyKid and Remind.
This event will take place on October 30th and the funds raised will make a huge impact. If you can't make it, help us spread the word to others for this event!

Volunteers Needed!
The Solar Peace Pantry is looking for volunteers with all different skills and schedules, but particularly, we are in need of volunteers who are available on Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 (without kids with them) to staff the pantry during our busiest shift!
It's a tricky time slot for many parents so if you're one of the rare people available and childless then, please send me an email! -- samantha.murphey@gmail.com
