Attendance matters! Help your Panther stay on track by keeping a close eye on attendance.
Check PowerSchool daily—both parents and students should review attendance regularly.
If your student is marked absent, parents should ask their student about the absence, and students should check with their teacher to confirm it.
Students attending a school-sponsored event during the school day may be marked absent temporarily. Once attendance is verified, the event sponsor will update the record.
Submit excuse notes promptly for any absences. Parents may write excuse notes for illnesses. If an absence lasts more than three consecutive days, a doctor's note is required. Please, email excuse notes to hillcresths@dallasisd.org.
Need help submitting an excuse note or wondering what information to include? See the details below.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep attendance records accurate. When attendance is correct, we can focus on helping every Panther succeed!

Student Release
Students are expected to stay at school from the time they arrive until the end of the school day at 4:30 PM. Students cannot leave campus early on testing days- students are expected to be in school all day during testing days.
If a student must leave early, a parent/guardian must come to the main entrance and sign out at the Front Office, present the proper identification, and check the student out of school, prior to 3:00 pm.
If you designate a person to pick up your child, the designer must present a picture ID and must be listed on your child’s contact information.
How to check out a student who drives
Email Ms. Balderas at hillcresths@dallasisd.org with a written note that the student needs to be checked out, the reason, and at what time. In addition, a photo ID of the requester needs to be attached to the email. This is to verify the requester has the legal authority to check out the student.
Please notify the office at least three hours prior to the time the student needs to leave campus.
Where can I submitt excused absence?
Please submit doctor's notes and other absence documentation to the Front Office. Regular attendance is essential to student success. Under Texas law, students are expected to attend school every day and be present for the full instructional day. Parents and guardians are responsible for ensuring their child attends school on time and submitting an excuse note within three school days after the student's return when an absence occurs.

Saturday 9:00am-12pm
Students who accumulate three unexcused absences (or parts of days) within a four-week period may be required to participate in Truancy Prevention Measures, including conferences, attendance agreements, or other support services. Students with 10 or more unexcused absences (or parts of days) within a six-month period may be referred to truancy court in accordance with Texas law.
Students must attend at least 90% of each class to earn credit. If absences (excused or unexcused) exceed 10%, students must complete Attendance for Credit to make up the time. Even with passing grades, credit can’t be awarded if attendance falls below 90%. Students will be required to complete an Attendance for Credit (AFC) plan to regain credit eligibility.
AFC does not exempt students from attending their regularly scheduled classes.
AFC is for all students who do not receive 90% of seat time per State Law.
Learn more about Dallas ISD Attendance Intervention Programs here.
Attendance for Credit focuses on ensuring students meet the attendance requirements necessary to earn a grade or credit for a class. To receive credit, students must be present at least 90% of the days of a class, Truancy deals with unexcused absences and compliance with state compulsory attendance laws. A student becomes truant when they accumulate a certain number of unexcused absences which triggers warnings and truancy intervention measures. As truancy escalates, the district implements tiered prevention measures and may ultimately pursue legal action with Dallas County. The key difference is that Attendance for Credit centers on academic eligibility tied to overall attendance percentage, whereas Truancy emphasizes legal compliance around unexcused absences and intervention to improve consistent attendance.
