Ryan Gosling is back at it, showcasing his immense Kenergy. Ever since he first became Ken in the Barbie movie, he has not looked back. He finally shared his Kenergy with all of us at the Oscars on Sun., Mar. 10. His performance of “I’m Just Ken” was his most obvious Ken moment, but it is the little things that truly contribute to having Kenergy.

Sharing the Kenergy

A main component of Kenergy is the ability to share, or even give, the spotlight to others. As Gosling was singing “I’m Just Ken,” he included members of the Barbie cast in the audience by sharing the microphone with them. He then made his way over to former La La Land costar, Emma Stone, lending her the microphone, as well. Someone with lower levels of Kenergy may have kept the spotlight to themself, rather than seeing the value of sharing the moment with the people around them. Even though the song is all about Ken, Gosling shares his Kenergy with the audience and proves that he is Kenough. While rehearsing, he also shared his Kenergy with his two daughters, who gave him pointers and “notes, all great notes” on his performance. He said in an interview with People, "They are such a huge part of this for me...it was my girl's interest in Barbie and disinterest in Ken that got me into this in the first place. It was beautiful to have them there at the end." His ability to take advice from others, especially his daughters, shows how deep the Kenergy runs.

Before the event started, everyone was wondering who Gosling brought with him to the Oscars. According to Vanity Fair, "Gosling rolled into the Mojo Dojo Casa House (also known as Los Angeles’s Dolby Theatre) Sunday with two important women on his arm: His mom, Donna Gosling, and sister, Mandi Gosling." As any true Ken would, he shared the moment with the important women in his life. While in the audience, he also made sure to include Margot Robbie, who had been snubbed of the nomination for best actress for Barbie, even though Gosling had gotten a nomination for best supporting actor as Ken. Throughout the night, we see him reach behind him for Robbie’s hand, letting her know that, even though she did not get the best actress nomination, he knows there is no Ken without Barbie.

The Main Event

Finally, the moment we had all been waiting for: the live performance of “I’m Just Ken.” Many Barbie fans have been wanting to see “I’m Just Ken” performed live since they first saw the movie last July. We have all, at last, been blessed with the live performance, which was arguably the most memorable moment of the night. Nobody in the crowd could escape or hide from the Kenergy, as it was raining from the ceiling, pouring out of the walls, and flooding up from the floor. The first sign of Kenergy was the outfit: a hot pink, sparkling suit, matching gloves, a black cowboy hat, and the signature Ken sunglasses. The ability to not only wear, but especially pull off such a bright color is a significant sign of the high level of Kenergy that Gosling was emitting that night. He started by singing directly to Barbie herself, Margot Robbie, who could not contain her laughter. On stage, he was joined by songwriter Mark Ronson and many of the other Kens from the movie dressed in suits and cowboy hats, including his main rival Ken played by Simu Liu. Later in the performance, he was joined by Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash and guitarist Wolfgang Van Halen. He then spread his Kenergy to the crowd as he made his way to the front row, giving Barbie costars America Ferrara, Margot Robbie, and Barbie director Greta Gerwig a chance to sing along. A hot pink sequin suit, sunglasses, and sharing the spotlight with others who were involved in the movie-- it does not get much more Kenergetic than that.
