  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Select Control Center from the left side menu.

  3. On the right side, scroll down to More Controls.

  4. Select the green + sign next to Apple TV Remote.

  5. Go back to the iPad home screen and swipe down from the top right of the iPad's screen to bring up the Control Center.

  5. Input the 4 digit code that is displayed on the Apple TV.

How to Disconnect your Apple TV Remote from the Apple TV

  1. Select the name of the Apple TV at the top of the Apple TV remote.

  2. When the list drops down select the name of the Apple TV again to disconnect from it.

  3. Tap the side of the iPad home screen to stop using the remote.

  4. Tap the side of the iPad home screen again to hide the Control Center.

  1. Check to make sure you are logged into your district Google account in Safari. See Tip 19 for instructions.

  2. Open the Zoom iPad app

  3. Select the blue Sign In link at the bottom of the screen.

  4. Select the blue Sign In With SSO link next to the (Enterprise User? ) in the lower middle portion of the screen.

  5. In the box below ("Enter your Company Domain" ) type in d62-org and select Go on the keyboard. d62-org may populate by itself in the box.

  6. The app will redirect you to Safari to verify your district Google credentials. Within the "Open this page in "Zoom"? pop-up that comes up select Open.

  1. Open Settings on Apple TV

  2. Go to System

  3. Select Restart


When using AirPlay to mirror your screen on the iPad or Laptop you might encounter sound issues. The audio might cut in and out when projecting video. The tip to getting this resolved, is to restart your Apple TV.


Restarting your Apple TV can also help with the following issues:

  • Frozen video

  • Laggy video

  • Choppy audio

When a site that supports translation is visited. You will get a Translation Available message in the search bar and small A inside a text bubble on the left side of the search bar. This will translate the page into English.

  1. Open Safari, visit a website in a foreign language.

  2. Tap on the AA icon on the left side of the search bar.

  3. Tap on Translate to English.

To Disable Translate.

  1. Tap on the highlighted icon on the left side of the search bar.

  2. Tap on View Original.

How to Create an EPUB File on your iPad using Pages

  1. Once you have completed your project in Pages, tap the more icon (three dots in the upper right corner)

  2. Tap Export, and choose EPUB

  3. Make any necessary changes to the title and author fields. You can also choose your cover option. When complete tap Export

  4. After the file has been created, choose Save to Files. It will default to iCloud Drive. Tap Save.

  5. To locate your file, go to the Files icon on your iPad's desktop. Make sure iCloud Drive is selected as the file location. You should see your EPUB file listed there.

  1. Open the Pages app.

  2. Select Create Document and choose Blank.

  3. Add the text from your script. You can do this by typing it into the document or copying and pasting it from a Google Doc if you originally created it there.

  4. Select the three dots within the circle icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

  5. Select Presenter Mode.

  6. Select the Aa in the upper right corner and toggle on Auto Scroll.

  7. Adjust the scroller below the Auto Scroll setting to change the speed. Sliding it to the left makes it slower and sliding it to the right makes it faster.

You can also change the background color, font and text options within the Aa menu.

With this shortcut you can undo and redo your last action quickly. This is an alternative to the undo icon that can appear in some apps. We have tested this shortcut and it works with the following apps:

  • Pages, Keynote, Numbers.

  1. Make sure your crayon is on/functioning.

  2. Tap on the Keynote app

  3. Navigate to the project you want to work on.

  4. Select the slide you want to draw on.

  5. Use your crayon to create drawings or handwritten text.

  6. You can use the pop up menu for additional writing options.

  1. Open Keynote.

  2. Choose the presentation and slide you want to animate.

  3. Tap or click the drawing to select it.

  4. Tap the drawing again, then tap "Animate" from the pop-up menu.

  5. Choose when you would like the animation to happen. We will tap on "Build in" for our example.

  6. In the pop-up menu, choose the animation option you want to add. We will choose “Line Draw” for our example.

  7. Tap Play to preview the animation.

  8. When you're finished, tap Done.

How to Add Green Screen Footage in iMovie

  1. Open your iMovie project. You will need to have footage already added to your timeline in order to add green screen footage or photos.

  2. Scroll the timeline so that the playhead (the white vertical line) appears over the background clip.

  3. Select the + icon in the upper right corner to add your green screen footage/photo.

  4. Depending on what you are importing, you will need to select the Video or Photo option. Then select the video/photo you want to add to your project.

  5. Select the three dots located in the right corner of the video/photo you just selected.

  6. From the Ad as... list select Green/Blue Screen. (When the footage is added to your timeline it will take a few moments to remove the green screen from the background.)

Changing Green Screen Footage When It’s Already in your iMovie Timeline

  1. Select the green screen video/photo in your timeline. When it’s selected it will have a yellow border around it.

  2. At the bottom middle portion of the screen select Overlays.

  3. From the available options you can select Cutaway to bring the green screen back to the selected video/photo. If your green screen video/photo has the green screen in the background you can select Green/Blue Screen to remove it from the background.

With this shortcut you can copy and paste with a gesture. This is an alternative to the copy/paste icon that can appear in apps when selecting text. We have tested this shortcut and it works with the following apps:

  • Pages, Keynote, Numbers.

  • Docs, Slides, Sheets.

  • Safari, Notes.

  1. Open presentation.

  2. Select the slide you want to add the audio to.

  3. Tap the Add button, make sure the Media button is selected, and tap Record Audio.

  4. Tap the Record button to begin.

  5. When finished recording, tap the Stop button. The recording will appear at the bottom of the screen. You can choose to edit your recording, or hit Insert to place the recording in the slide.

  6. You will now see an audio icon on your slide indicating the audio has been added.

How to Recover Photo/Video

  1. Tap on the recently deleted tab in the Sidebar.

  2. Tap on Select (this allows you to select multiple items at once).

  3. Tap on desired photos and videos.

  4. Tap on Recover.

  5. Tap on Recover to confirm.


How to Delete Photo/Video

  1. Tap on the recently deleted tab in the Sidebar.

  2. Tap on Select (this allows you to select multiple items at once).

  3. Tap on desired photos and videos.

  4. Tap on Delete.

  5. Tap on Delete to confirm.

Please Note: videos and photos that are deleted will stay in the recently deleted folder for 30 days. Once that is up they will automatically be deleted.

#49. Sharing PDF Files/Worksheets with Students Using Apple Classroom

Teacher iPad Instructions

  1. Open Apple Classroom and begin your class.

  2. Return to the home screen and open the Files app. (PDF files/worksheets will need to have been previously saved in the Files app before sharing them with your students.)

  3. Press and hold the PDF file until a list of options comes up.

  4. Press Share from the list and then select AirDrop.

  5. Your class name will show up under the People section. Select it to share the PDF files with all of the students in that class. Once shared with students, it will automatically create a copy for them.

Student iPad Instructions

  1. An AirDrop pop-up will come up. Press Accept.

  2. Select Files from the list of options.

  3. The Files app will open. Select iCloud Drive from the list of save locations, and press Save. (Once the PDF file is saved to the Files app you can then use your Logitech crayon with markup to complete the assignment digitally.)

  4. Tap on the PDF file that you just saved to enable editing mode. To start using markup with your Logitech crayon select the icon in the upper right corner. (The markup icon is a circle with a pencil inside of it.)

  5. Once that is selected, your markup toolbar will come up at the bottom of your iPad's screen.

  6. You can now complete the PDF digitally with the Logitech Crayon.

#52. Using Split View in iPadOS 15

How to use Split View:

  1. Open the first app you want to use.

  2. Select the three dots at the top in the middle of the screen.

  3. Select the middle icon.

  4. Select the app that you want to use in split view. Previously you could only select apps that were in your dock. You can now select any app that is located on your iPad’s home screen or apps library and supports and supports the app slide over feature.

Adjust Split View size:

  1. Hold the gray divider that is on the center of the display, and move left or right to the size of your choosing.

Exit Split View:

  1. Select the three dots at the top in the middle of the screen and choose the left icon to exit split view. This will take you back to the first app you had open.

Please Note: If you don't see the three dots at the top of one of your apps then that app doesn't support this feature. Seesaw is one that doesn't' support this at this time. Most of the Google and Apple apps work with this feature.

How to use App Slide Over in iPadOS 15:

  1. Open the app you want to use in app slide over. This app will be the one that floats over the second app you select.

  2. Select the three dots at the top in the middle of the screen.

  3. Select the icon to the right.

  4. Select the app that you want to designate as your full screen app. Previously you could only select apps that were in your dock. You can now select any app that is located on your iPad's home screen or apps library and supports the app slide over feature.

Hiding the slide over apps:

  1. You can hide your stack of slide over apps by holding the left edge of the stack and swiping it to the right off screen.

  2. You can bring the stack back by grabbing the gray arrow/handle on the right side in the middle of the screen and swiping it left.

Closing all of the slide over apps:

  1. Hold and swipe up from the center grey divider located on the slide over apps list.

  2. When it's in this mode, select the app and swipe it up to close it out.

  3. If you have multiple slide over apps open you will need to repeat these steps for each one when it's in this mode.

How to use Multiple Apps with App Slide Over:

  1. You can add additional apps with app slide over by opening the second app you want to use.

  2. Then select the three dots at the top in the middle of the screen.

  3. Select the icon to the right.

  4. Select the app that you designated as your full screen app.

  5. You will now have a second app stacked on top of the first app you had in this mode.

  6. Repeat this process to add additional apps to your stack.

Cycling through the slide over apps:

  1. At the bottom of the slide over apps list you will see a grey divider located in the center.

  2. Hold and swipe up from the grey divider to reveal all of the apps you have open.

  3. Select the app you want to use when it is in this mode by tapping on it.

Using the New Apps Library

  1. From your Home Screen, swipe your finger to the left until you see the App Library. Your apps are sorted in the App Library by category.

  2. The apps that you use most frequently appear as large icons that you can tap to open the app directly. To see all the apps in each category, tap the group of smaller app icons and then tap the app of your choice.

  3. You can also tap the App Library search field to see an alphabetized list of all your apps. Start typing the app name in the search field to narrow the search.

  4. When you install new apps, they're added to your App Library automatically. When you feel more comfortable using the App Library, additional options such as adding and deleting apps can help customize your experience even further.

  2. Highlight desired text, then tap on Translate.

Please Note: When you update your iPad to iPadOS 15 you will also have a standalone Translate app that you can use as well. Similar to the Google Translate app.

How to Reorder Home Screen pages in iPadOS 15:

  1. Touch and long-press an empty part of the Home Screen, until the app icons start jiggling.

  2. Tap the row of dots towards the bottom of the screen.

  3. Touch and long-press the home screen page that you want to reorder.

  4. While still holding the home screen page you can drag it before or after another page creating the order you prefer.

  5. Repeat this process for any of the pages you would like to reorder.

How to hide a Home Screen page in iPadOS 15:

  1. Touch and long-press an empty part of the Home Screen, until the app icons start jiggling.

  2. Tap the row of dots towards the bottom of the screen.

  3. Tap the encircled checkmark underneath the page you want to hide.

  4. Once finished, tap Done in the top-left corner.


To unhide a Home Screen repeat the previous steps but leave the circle check marked.

  2. Tap and select desired text.

#59. Using the Photo stacking feature in iPadOS 15

How to use Photo Stacking in iPadOS 15:

  1. Select a photo that you want to drag by tapping and holding the photo from within the app and start moving it around. The photo’s overflow menu (if available) should disappear when you start dragging it around the screen.

  2. While keeping one finger pressed to the screen over the first photo, select the other photos by simply tapping on them with a finger from your other hand. Multiple selections should appear as tiny thumbnails under the finger which you have kept pressed on the screen.

  3. Keep that finger pressed on the screen and drag the photos to where you’d like to paste them. Release your finger from the screen to paste the photos into the document.

#60. Using Widgets in iPadOS 15

How to add widgets to home screen:

  1. Touch and hold an empty area on your Home Screen, then tap the Add button (looks like a +) when it appears in the upper-left corner.

  2. Select a widget from the list.

  3. Swipe left or right on the widget to choose a size, then tap Add Widget.

  4. Tap Done in the upper-right corner, or just tap your Home Screen.

You can also add widgets to the Today View page. Swipe right until you reach the Today View page, and follow the same procedure as adding widgets to the home screen.

Arranging widgets on home screen:

  1. To arrange widgets, touch and hold an empty area of the desktop until the icons jiggle.

  2. Move the widget to where you want it to go. Tap Done in the upper-right corner, or just tap an empty area of screen to complete.

Deleting a widget:

  1. Touch and hold the widget you wish to remove.

  2. When you see the menu pop up, release and tap Remove Widget. Tap Remove to confirm.

How to create a tab group:

  1. Tap the icon in the upper left corner to open the sidebar.

  2. Tap the newly opened icon in the top-right corner of the sidebar.

  3. Choose “new empty tab group”, name your new tab group and save.

Move an open tab to a tab group or create tab group with an open tab:

  1. While a tab is open, touch and hold the tab you want to move into a tab group or press the tab overview button located in the top right corner (icon with 4 squares) until the drop down menu appears.

  2. Tap “move to tab group” and choose one of the tab groups you created previously or select “new tab group.” If you select “new tab group” and enter a name the current tab will be moved to the newly created tab group.

Bonus tip: If you hold down the plus sign in the upper right corner of Safari it will list recently closed tabs.

#62. Using Background Sounds in iPadOS 15

Using Background Sounds:

  1. Tap Settings

  2. Tap Accessibility

  3. Tap Audio/Visual

  4. Tap Background Sounds

  5. At the top of the screen you can toggle Background Sounds on.

  6. Tap Sound to listen to the different noise options.

  7. From this screen you can also control whether background sounds will play when using other media and if you want the sounds to stop when the device locks.

#63. Using Visual Lookup in iPadOS 15

Using Visual Lookup in iPadOS 15:

  1. Open the Photos app.

  2. Tap on a photo in your library to open it in full screen.

  3. If the small "i" icon in the upper right corner has a star next to it, that indicates that Visual Lookup information is available for that photo.

  4. Tap the small "i" icon in the upper right corner. The Siri knowledge window will come up and will provide more information on the subject.

  5. Tap the Look Up section to reveal more information about the landmark, art, plants, flowers or animals.

Slide to Type:

  1. Press and hold the Keyboard icon.

  2. While holding the keyboard icon, move your finger upward and select Floating from the menu.

Dock Keyboard:

  1. Place finger near horizontal line at bottom of floating keyboard.

  2. While holding that area of the keyboard. Move to the bottom center of the screen to dock keyboard.

Please Note: This function only works when Floating keyboard is enabled. You will move finger over individual letters that will spell out the word you are attempting to type.

#65. Using the Magnifier app in iPadOS 15

Using the Magnifier App:

  1. Tap on Magnifier App

  2. Make adjustments to your image. You can use the slider to zoom in and out or adjust brightness, contrast, or apply a filter.

  3. Once the image is adjusted to your liking, tap on the image to focus. You should see a square icon pop up for a moment.

  4. Press the icon with a circle inside a circle to freeze the image.

  5. Now you can save or share the image by tapping and holding the screen until you see “share” pop up. Tap on share to save or share your image.

#66. Jam Sessions in Garageband

How to use Jam Sessions in GarageBand (Instructional Steps in Video):

  1. Create a new project, or open an existing one.

  2. In GarageBand, go to Settings → Jam Session → Create Session/Join Session

  3. One iPad will be designated as the Bandleader, and other iPads (up to 3) can join in the session. The jam session will show up by displaying the iPad names.

  4. The bandleader will set the tempo, song settings, and even add pre-recorded instruments and/or loops. Once everyone selects their instruments and determines their parts, the bandleader can start.

  5. Record the track. Everyone will hear only their instruments plus the metronome (if used). *NOTE - Headphones are not recommended, so the group can hear each other play.

  6. When finished recording, all tracks will be added to the bandleader iPad. They can then playback the song, adjust settings, and continue recording.

  7. When finished, the session can be exited by returning to Settings → Jam Session → End Session. You can then exit the project and everything will be saved automatically.


#67. Adding VoiceOver Image Descriptions to Photos in Markup

How to add VoiceOver Image Descriptions to Photos in Markup:

  1. Open the Photos app and select the photo you want to add a description to.

  2. Select Edit in the upper right corner and then the Markup icon. (Looks like a pencil within a circle)

  3. In the Markup toolbar at the bottom of the screen, tap the +, then tap description.

  4. Enter your description, then tap done.

Please Note: This is only available in iPadOS 15

How to turn on VoiceOver Image Description:

  1. Open the Settings App

  2. Tap on Accessibility → VoiceOver → VoiceOver Recognition

  3. Tap on Image Descriptions. Toggle Image Descriptions to ON

  4. In the upper left corner tap on <VoiceOver Recognition → <VoiceOver

  5. Toggle VoiceOver to ON

  6. You'll now be able to use VoiceOver to read the description you created in your photo.

#68. Using the Measurement App

How to take a measurement

  1. Open the Measure app, then follow any onscreen instructions that ask you to move your device around. Keep moving your device until a circle with a dot in the center appears.

  2. Move your device so that the dot is over the starting point of your measurement, then tap the Add button

  3. Slowly move your device until the dot is over the ending point of your measurement, then tap the Add button again.

  4. After you take a measurement, you can adjust its starting and ending points. Touch and hold one of the points, then drag it where you want it to go. The measurement changes as you move the point.

Copy or create photo of your measurement

  1. While the measurement is displayed, you can tap the number to see it in inches and centimeters.

  2. Tap Copy, and the value is sent to your clipboard so you can paste it into another app. Tap Clear to start over.

  3. You can also take a photo that shows the object and its measurement. Just tap the Shutter button and the photo appears in the lower-left corner of your screen.

  4. Swipe left to save it to your Photos app.

How to Delete Multiple Saved Photos & Videos:

  1. Open the Photos app.

  2. Tap on Library from the left side menu.

  3. Tap on All Photos from the top menu.

  4. Tap on the Select button in the upper right corner.

  5. Select all of the photos and videos you want to delete by tapping each one.
