Spotlights and Shout-outs!
A Place to Highlight The Students and Staff at Fruita Middle School!!!
By: AJ Wade (7th grade reporter)
What’s it really like to be a 7th grader at Fruita Middle School? On October 23, I interviewed Braden Thompson to find out his thoughts on everything from classes to bathrooms — and what changes he’d like to see around FMS.
The first question was just to get to know Braden. I asked him; can you tell me a little about yourself? Braden told me "I love food, I wrestle and play football, and green is my favorite color”
I then started to get into the questions about FMS. "Can you tell me what you think of 7th grade?" I asked him. He replied with "It's good, better than elementary school. 6th grade was fun, so 7th grade was something to look forward to."
I then asked him; are you in any after school programs? He explained to me "I go to the FCA club sometimes, because when wrestling season comes around, it's a little harder to go because I go to wrestling 5 days a week 2 hours a day"
After that question, I asked him; Braden, how would you rate FMS? He then told me that "It's like a chill 8/10 because there are things we can improve like more assemblies"
I then continued to ask Braden; Do you like using the lockers here at FMS? He replied, "Sometimes, because sometimes my locker won't open, then the next time I go to open it, it doesn't work.” I then asked him about the bathrooms. He said "I wish students would keep them cleaner and be more respectful of the space- But they are nice don’t get me wrong."
That was all the questions I had for Braden. I wished him a good day and went about my day, thinking about the answers he gave me and how we can better FMS as a community.
Have you met Ms. Perry yet? Getting to know 8th Grade ELA's student teacher a little more.
By: Emma Zamora (8th grade reporter)
Ms. Perry is a student teacher at CMU and working with Ms. McKee here at FMS. She is currently earning her degree in secondary education with a focus of english.
Why English you may ask? Ms. Perry chose her degree for a few different reasons. One day she recalled that was sitting in her school gym and her teacher came up to her and told her to pick a major so she picked a random degree. But, even though it was last minute she explained that she; always wanted to be a teacher because she loved to read and teach.
Being an english teacher, I had to ask Ms. Perry what she likes to read. Her favorite book is The Sound and The Fury by William Faulkner. The reason why she loves this book is because her favorite professor told her to read it outside of class and so she did. It made her think a lot because it was very heavy and serious. She said her favorite part about being a teacher is the students. She has always wanted to be a teacher ever since high school.
FUN FACTS:
When asked what Ms. Perry's reaction would be if the entire 8th hour class would be quiet for a whole day and she responded, "I would run away and think that they got attacked by aliens."
A hidden talent students might be surprised about is that she is a good painter.
Her favorite thing to do in her free time is read, hike, swim, paddle board. She really loves to be outside.
Note from me: The reason why I wrote about her is because student teachers are often overlooked even though they work just as hard. She is a great ELA teacher and I love having her as my teacher.

Reading, for many might be a challenge, some might not even like it but in Mrs. Lintott’s 9th hour that has changed.
In this class you get to read every day with your choice of book, making students the main voice in what they read. Students are also making tracking goals. Marley Cordova says “I round it up to how much I need to read.” Marley’s goal is half way through the book she is reading.
Violet Pingle’s is “15 pages a day” and Torsten Harper’s goal is “three chapters” a day. The class is to be said, “Very quiet and the students do their best” says Marley. Violet explains "We get to have snacks and we get to become better communicators.”
The students said that if you forget your book you have to do 20 burpees!
Mr. Linotts's 9th hour is one to be remembered, from goals to burpees, reading can be made fun!
Fun In The Office
Story and Photos By: Kaydee Austin, 8th Grade Reporter
What is the heartbeat of FMS? That would have to be the front office run by two incredible superheroes which help our school to function every day. Let's get to know our amazing secretaries and office aids as well.
The first person I interviewed was our Attendance Secretary Mrs. Bosio. I asked Mrs. Bosi: What is your job here in the office? Which she told me “My job is the attendance secretary. I keep accurate attendance for everyone at Fruita Middle School. I also organize report cards and I process registrations as well as updating the website for FMS. In addition to all this things, I also do textbooks and whatever else needs help.” The next question I asked was: What are the greatest strengths and biggest challenges you have to do on an everyday basis? She explained “The biggest challenges are a lot of different things here in the office and sometimes it's hard to juggle everything.” I then asked; Did you ever think you would work here twenty years ago? She said “I would have never thought I would work here. I used to manage dorms in college and I had to organize a lot of things but I am happy that I have a job here. I wanted to be a teacher but I didn't have the patience to be in a classroom all day.” We love you Mrs. Bosio and FMS is so grateful to have you in the office!
The next person I interviewed was Mrs. West with some really interesting answers. Frist, I asked her was; What is your job like here in the office? She said to me “I have to handle every request and things that have to be done with the office in a timely manner.” Then I asked; What is your biggest challenge here as a staff member? She said “I’d say my biggest challenge as a staff member is that it's hard to get everyone's requests and it's hard to see who truly needs help like students when they have a bad day. I want kids to know that this is a safe space.” I then asked her; Why do you like coming to school everyday? What motivates you to come here? She says, “The students are the reason why I’m here. I like when they come here and say that they like being here.” The last question I asked was; What did you want to be when you were younger? She said “I wanted to be a helicopter pilot because my dad was a pilot so I thought that I had to be one too.” Mrs. West, you are so important to FMS, thank you for everything you do!
The last people I interviewed were the office aids and this is what they said. I asked Noah and Kinsley; What is your main job here in the office? which they said “We mostly deliver packages, passes, and other things we are told to do.” I then asked; What do you do when you're not doing anything? They said “We play drift boss, we do homework, or we sit around until we are told to do something.” I also asked; What class would you like to have if you weren't an office aide? Kinsley said, “I would want Mrs Blackwell because she can eat snacks.” And Noah replied, “I would want Mr Blackburn's class because I can get more athletic.”
This was one of my favorite interviews because the energy was so fun and positive and everyone was so respectful and it was just so fun to do. I learned a lot about the people in our office and I hope you did too.
Get to know Miguel Garcia
By: Korbin Carrillo, 8th Grade Reporter
Miguel Garcia gave some answers to allow us to get to know him better. He was born in Idaho, eventually coming here to Fruita. His favorite food is Chipotle and pollo. Some of his favorite activities are playing video games, and playing football. His favorite football team is the Denver Broncos. And his favorite movie is Fast and Furious 4.
I then asked him, if he could tell the school something, what would it be. And Miguel said, “Be nice, and don’t be mean.” Which are some moving words. I then asked him some final questions like his favorite holiday and dessert, and he said Christmas and vanilla ice cream.
