Writing Club Brings Writers of All Grades Together
By: Addilyn Church, Managing Editor
A new student-led writing club was started on January 8, helping unite writers from all over to gather feedback from others and do plenty of writing. This writing club was created by and is led by Addilyn Church (one of our managing editors), who wanted a place to write, hear other writers’ opinions of her writing, and get together with other writers. In addition, the club is sponsored by Emily Lintott, 7-1 ELA teacher, and meets on Thursdays from 3:20-4:10 in Mrs. Lintott’s room.
The room goes silent as one student lifts her notebook and begins reading aloud to the rest of the club members. “Molly ran as fast as she could towards the crushed car. Her little brother was trapped inside. Molly’s sister stood terrified by the paramedics, who were doing their best to treat her injuries. Molly’s heart pounded as fear flooded her body.” The student finishes, smiling nervously. The other students applaud as one raises their hand to offer some feedback. All too soon, it is 4:10, time to leave. The students say farewell to each other, anticipating the next Thursday after school, when they would meet up again.
When Mrs. Lintott was asked how she felt about the writing club, she said, “I’m really excited about it, and it truly is a great way for students to connect with each other.”
So far, about eight students have been attending regularly, having lots of fun together, playing games, a favorite being gif charades, where students act out a gif on the screen, and other students guess which one they are acting out. One great benefit, according to Mrs. Lintott, is that “you don’t have to come every time. It is more of a club that you can just drop in any time you want.
“This club isn’t just sitting down and writing silently. It’s full of laughter and fun.” Adds Mrs. Lintott. “If you want to write but don’t have any time, or just want to write in general, the writing club is for you.”
Writing club is for anyone and everyone of any age or type. If you want to write, learn to write, get some feedback, or even just hang out with other writers, come to the writing club, and you will get all of these things and more.
Mrs. Lintott’s final answer to the question ‘Is there anything else you want to add?’ was “The writing club has a student leader who is kind, cool, and fun.” To add to Mrs. Lintott’s statement, the club offers snacks, fun activities, and more. We would love it if more students joined the club, as it could help grow the writing population and allow more writers to share their writing. We also hope that in the future, this club will be strong and highly successful. The writing club is for the school's writing oddballs to come together, share feedback, and write without distractions. ❤
