Interested in a career in Fire fighting?

Now Taking Applications for the D51 Fire Academy!

So What is it about?

Through a partnership with the Palisade Fire Department, students participate in a year-long program where they learn fire science and fire fighting skills, take part in live fire burns, experience hazmat training, gain valuable emergency medical responder skills, and get to participate in wildland fire training.  Students have an opportunity to take their Firefighter 1 and Hazmat Certifications.  Those who pass these tests can also earn college credit through WCCC!

This program requires a year long commitment.  While exciting and fun, it also takes a lot of hard work.  Students learn through lectures, book work, online coursework, and of course, hands-on training and activities.  Teamwork is a must as a fire crew relies heavily on each other to provide a service to the community while keeping safety at the forefront.

The majority of the training takes place at the Palisade Fire Station, but also at other locations as deemed necessary based on the training topic.  Classes run from 1:00 - 3:00pm Monday through Friday, but also require occasional weekend training days throughout the year.  Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation.

Interested students must apply and interview for this exciting opportunity.  Further details can be found below, along with the application form.  Please turn in your completed application, along with a letter of interest, and two recommendations (can be from any coach, teacher, mentor, etc.) to Fire Chief Charles Balke at cbalke@townofpalisade.org by May 22nd.  Interviews will follow immediately after.
