The goal of CTE is to provide quality educational programs emphasizing core academic content, Postsecondary & Workforce Readiness (PWR) competencies, technical skills, and seamless transition to further education or employment and better prepare students, including special populations to meet challenges of the workforce, economic development, and emerging occupations.
Colorado Career & Technical Education (CTE) leverages workforce and education systems so that each learner has quality CTE experiences leading to lifelong career success.
CTE ensures a thriving Colorado economy by providing relevant and rigorous education that is connected, responsive and real.

CTE High School Concentrators graduate at a higher rate than students who do not participate in CTE! Check out this info sheet to learn more. Additionally, our concentrators are more likely to go on to postsecondary education. (CTE Concentrators are students who participate in 2 years of aligned CTE programming).
Each high school participates in Career & Technical Education, and has multiple pathways for students to explore careers, participate in industry-driven curriculum/training, earn industry credentials, and prepare to enter into postsecondary training/education and the workforce! We have over 40 CTE programs (including high school and middle school), all of which are based off of the Colorado Career Cluster Model. 65% of high school students already take advantage of the many opportunities our schools provide. Our goal is to offer quality programs that align with state and local industry demand and lead to high wage, high demand, and high skilled employment.
Colorado CTE programs are divided into six industry sectors, as shown in the Colorado Career Cluster Model below: Agriculture, Natural Resources & Energy; Engineering, Technology & Media Arts; Skilled Trades & Technical Sciences; Health Science, Criminal Justice & Public Safety; Hospitality, Human Services & Education; Business, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Finance & Public Administration.
More than 5,000 community and business leaders serve on advisory committees and councils supporting CTE programs in Colorado. This ensures that our programs are responsive to industry needs, teach relevant employability skills, and offer access to pathway-specific technical skill attainment.
Check out our D51 CTE Programs at our various high school campuses and our Designated Career & Technical School (DCTS), Career Center. Career Center is one of 10 DCTS sites state-wide, and the only one on the Western Slope!
