Mesa County Valley School District 51 and our Work Based Learning Program is celebrating a 4 year partnership with the Colorado Building and Construction Trades Council for two, 120-hour courses. Through the active relationship with the CBCTC, these courses will provide curriculum and resources that benefit students in meeting their career and technical education competency goals and valuable career readiness skills needed to enter the construction industry. The partnership between MCVSD51 and the CBCTC Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee and instructors provides instruction and course work to prepare students for application into the CBCTC’s registered paid apprenticeship programs to further a career path.
Interested in participating? Let us know by filling out our google form! This helps our counselors know who to reach out to as we recruit each semester.
Students participate on a weekly basis, attending an eight-hour day built into their school schedules with exposure to a multitude of construction trades, hands-on experience days, professional instruction, OSHA 10 training and recognized skilled trades certification.
Through this program, we hope to prepare students of District 51 for future careers in the construction trades with a specific focus on applied learning and hands-on experience. By accessing recognized curriculum through the Colorado Building and Construction Trades Council (CBCTC), students who attend and complete the 120 hour courses will gain the knowledge and expertise to become apprentices in CBCTC's registered apprenticeship program. Workforce development for the construction trades is imperative for Mesa County and collaborating with CBCTC will allow up to 30 high school age students the opportunity to embark on a career pathway that will be economically sustainable and fulfilling.
CBCTC benefits include a recruitment program to allow better quality candidates to apply to the apprenticeships and demonstrate the diversity of career paths within the construction industry; and the possibility of providing good construction careers throughout Mesa County and Colorado by utilizing contractors that recognize the ARP and placement of the trained students into local jobs and future careers!
