Teacher Recruitment and Education Preparation Program
TREP Information
What is TREP?
The Teacher Recruitment Education and Preparation (TREP) program is a "Grow Your Own" program in D51. Our hope is to create our own future educators using the talented youth from our own community!
This program creates the opportunity for qualified students interested in a teaching career to concurrently enroll in tuition-free college courses for the two years after their 12th grade year (textbooks and fees are the responsibility of the student).

The Teacher Recruitment Education and Preparation (TREP) program was created by SB 21-185. The TREP program creates the opportunity for qualified students in an educator career pathway to concurrently enroll in postsecondary courses for the two years after the 12th grade year.
This program is funded through the State of Colorado, and funding is not guaranteed. The District will fund tuition at either part-time or full-time rates, and the number of TREP slots varies from year to year and is contingent about the allocation received from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). It is vital that students and families understand that the TREP program is contingent upon state funds, and these funds are allotted each summer. Students are strongly advised to apply for admission, scholarships, and financial aid to the college(s) of their choice.
Students must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for the TREP program:
Create a detailed plan for college enrollment in the student’s Individual Career & Academic Plan (ICAP). The ICAP outlines the student’s career goals and aligns his/her high school coursework, experiences, and opportunities with future plans. When completing the application, the student will be asked to reflect upon their future plan and how this program will support achievement of that plan.
Complete TREP Application and Contract.
Complete all high school graduation requirements.
Successfully earned college credits in one qualifying course during senior year (see Educator Pathway Coursework below the application details).
Earn a cumulative GPA in the college courses of 2.0 or better.
Have applied/plan to apply to Colorado Mesa University in an Early Childhood, Elementary, or Secondary Education program.
File for FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
Agree to delay high school graduation for one year. (Students can still participate in graduation ceremonies).
Are college ready and not in need of remedial education:
Need to qualify for Math 110 or Math 105* if seeking Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or Secondary Education in English or History. Need to qualify for MATH 113 if seeking Secondary Education in Math or Science. (see cut score chart)
*MATH 105 is for Elementary Education only
