High School Scholars
What is High School Scholars?
High School Scholars is a great way to dip a toe into the waters of Concurrent Enrollment. College courses are taught by our D51 high school teachers on their home school campus. D51 partners with CMU to get high school teachers qualified to teach these courses, and D51 teachers work hand in hand with CMU professors to make sure they are providing the same rigorous coursework offered on CMU's campus. Courses vary from school to school, so check with your counselors to see what options you have!
Requirements for Participation
To be eligible to participate in the concurrent program you must meet the following criteria:
Student must have a 2.0 or higher GPA at the time this document is due, and be on track for graduation.
Student must include Concurrent Enrollment (CE) as part of their ICAP (Concurrent Coursework Survey to be completed in Naviance).
Student must have qualifying test scores prior to being registered in the class (check with your counselor).
Steps for Enrollment
The Concurrent Enrollment process must begin with a conversation with your school counselor to talk through what options you qualify for, the processes, and financial obligations.
Complete the Concurrent Enrollment Program Agreement form for parents and students:
Application to CMU: https://www.coloradomesa.edu/wccc/concurrent/apply.html.
Colorado Opportunity Fund Stipend: Apply for COF at https://cof.college-assist.org.
Concurrent Enrollment Registration E-form. E-form available here: https://forms.coloradomesa.edu/#/form/137 (Note: Student must use their MavZone login to complete.)
Request your transcript from your school counselor. Make sure to upload a pdf copy to your CMU's Registration E-Form.
Check with your counselor to make sure you have qualifying test scores. If your transcript does not have test scores on it, please make sure you upload a score report to CMU's Registration E-form.
What Else Do I need to Know?
D51 will pay the course tuition up front. Students are financially responsible for any fees, books and supplies associated with college courses. Please check course and college fees prior to participating, as some courses can have more costs associated with them. The typical fee for a concurrent course is $32.10/credit hour. If there is a financial need, talk with your school counselor about options, or fill out this request for assistance.
The first class a student attempts is eligible to be financially forgiven if a student does not earn a “C” or better.
After the first attempted class, if a student earns a final grade of a “D” or an “F” or a “WF” in the college course(s), she/he must reimburse D51 the tuition cost. Students who withdraw from the class after the CMU course drop date must also reimburse D51 for the cost of tuition.
Students who earn a "D" or an "F" or a "WF" and plan to continue taking Concurrent Enrollment courses must submit a Concurrent Enrollment Appeal Form to the Office of Career & College Readiness for approval.
D51 students will be enrolled in college coursework where adult learners are also present.
All students in this program are subject to CMU guidelines for tuition, fees, attendance, withdrawal from courses, and other policies. CMU will contact students directly for confirmation of schedules and billing via their CMU email and their MavZone account.
Some courses have a digital book option. If you do not OPT OUT in your MavZone account, you will be charged for the cost of the digital book.
Concurrent students need to check their CMU email and MavZone account on a daily basis.
