In 4th grade all students are expected to attend music prepared with their recorders every week beginning at the end of September. The recorder unit is one most students are very excited to begin so thank you for your patience as your student practices at home.
This year we are doing Recorder Karate. Students will be given a packet of nine songs to learn over the next few months. They will learn the songs with me in class and then test for Recorder Karate belts by performing a song accurately on their recorders. As we learn the songs, we will also be learning new notes and rhythms. I usually set up a Flipgrid account for them to submit 90 second videos of themselves performing. This allows students to test for recorder belts at their own pace and when they are comfortable. The videos are private and will not be published or shared publicly. If they do not use Flipgrid they will test for me in class during recorder center time every other week. I expect them to get through their purple belt at a minimum by December. Some students may earn their black belt by then. Below I have listed the Flipgrid links to test according to the belt they need. As the classes advances, I will post more links!
