1st grade students attend music twice a week. Some of the things they are learning during their time in class include:

• Experiencing and distinguishing between steady beat and rhythm

• How to echo rhythms and begin to read rhythm using ta and ta-di (quarter notes and eighth notes)

• Matching pitch and beginning solfege - so mi la 

• Understanding notes move higher and lower on a staff

• Perform on both pitched and unpitched percussion instruments

• Understand same/different in music

• Body awareness through music and movement
