Third graders will be hard at work creating, performing, and responding to music. In 2nd grade they learned and practiced using whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rests to compose rhythm patterns. These rhythms will be reviewed. They will perform songs in AB and ABA form. We will have fun learning about the pitched percussion instruments used in music, such as the xylophone, metallophone, and glockenspiel. Students will learn to perform on these instruments to accompany their singing. We will also begin learning to sing in parts with simple rounds and partner songs.
Other things we will be learning about this year include:
Instruments of the orchestra: Strings, Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion instruments
Tempo in music - fast vs. slow
Dynamics - loud vs. quiet
Good vocal technique and simple part singing (rounds) in music
Our district has purchased a new resource for general music - Quaver. Your students can log onto this site by clicking the Quaver Music App in their Classlink launchpad. Ask you student to show you around this site where they have created their own avatar and are learning about and exploring music.
