2nd Grade

2nd grade students attend music twice a week. Some of the things they are learning during their time in class include:

• Distinguishing between and performing both steady beat and rhythm

• Reading and composing rhythms using whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, barred eighth notes, and quarter rests

• Matching pitch and beginning solfege - so mi la do

• Performing on both pitched and unpitched percussion instruments to accompany their singing

• Understanding same/different in music - the form or structure of the music

• Body awareness through music and movement
