6th Grade Social Studies will start the year exploring Geography. Students will be learning how to identify the seven continents and five oceans. They will also be finding coordinate locations by using longitude and latitude lines.

6th Grade will then move into our Early Humans unit by exploring the differences between the Neolthic and Paleothic ages.

Our Social Studies students are embarking on a journey through history designed to sharpen their analytical minds and expand their understanding of the world. Throughout their studies, students will develop essential critical thinking and research skills by evaluating primary and secondary sources, assessing evidence, and constructing well-reasoned historical arguments. To build a true historical perspective, they will explore multiple narratives, placing events in context to trace the powerful patterns of continuity and change over time.

Beyond examining the past, this approach fosters ethical awareness and informed citizenship. We are dedicated to guiding students as they synthesize complex information and engage in responsible, accurate interpretation, and we invite you to support these thoughtful conversations at home as they learn to bring a critical, compassionate lens to the world around them.

In 8th Grade Social Studies, we have wrapped up Lesson 17, “Tensions in the West,” where students explored the different groups who moved West, including railroad builders, ranchers and cowboys, miners, and homesteaders. 

We also examined the impact westward expansion had on American Indians, including conflict, loss of land, and their forced removal to reservations. Next, we will begin Lessons 18 & 19. 

In “The Rise of Industry,” students will learn about the Industrial Revolution, new inventions, and the rise of big business in the United States. We will then move into “The Great Wave of Immigration,” where students will explore why millions of immigrants came to the United States, their experiences at places like Ellis Island, and the opportunities and challenges they faced after arriving.
