In 6th Grade Social Studies, we are learning about the first civilizations in both Mesopotamia and Mesoamerica. Students will also learn about the origins of civilization by learning about the acronym G.R.A.P.E.S. (Geography, Religion, Achievements, Politics, Economy, and Social Structure)
Your student is currently studying “Forming a New Nation” in Social Studies. This unit explores how America’s leaders built a new government after independence—balancing power between the states, individuals, and the national government. Students will examine the three branches of government and delve into the importance of the Bill of Rights.
To support your child, discuss the Bill of Rights together and talk about how those freedoms impact our lives today. You might also explore differing views on how much power the government should have—a debate that continues even now.
In 8th Grade Social Studies, we are currently in Lesson 21: World War I. In this Lesson, students will learn about the tensions in Europe which led to the start of World War I and the United States' eventual joining of the War. During this Lesson, students will be completing worksheets that go along with the TCI Readings, a Map Activity to determine which countries were on what side of the war (Axis vs. Allies) as well as a War Technology Research Project and creation of their own Propaganda Posters!
