After our Early Humans Unit, students will learn about civilization's components using GRAPES. Students will learn how to categorize ideas using GRAPES (Geographic, Religion, Achievements, Political, Economic, and Social Structure). Students will also be learning about one of the oldest known civilizations, Mesopotamia. This month, our 7th grade students paused their regular US History curriculum to observe Patriots Day, honoring the memory of 9/11. As part of their learning, they explored The Atlantic magazine covers to analyze how perspectives on the tragedy have evolved over the years. Students also took a virtual tour of the 9/11 Memorial Sites in New York City, Shanksville, and the Pentagon, deepening their understanding of the events and their lasting impact. To conclude, each student created a visual representation of one of the memorial sites, a few of which are featured above.
In 8th Grade Social Studies, we are currently in Lesson 21: World War I. In this Lesson, students will learn about the tensions in Europe which led to the start of World War I and the United States' eventual joining of the War. During this Lesson, students will be completing worksheets that go along with the TCI Readings, a Map Activity to determine which countries were on what side of the war (Axis vs. Allies) as well as a War Technology Research Project and creation of their own Propaganda Posters!
