COBRA Coverage

If you’ve separated from District 300, had your hours reduced (ex. leave), or experienced other qualifying events (ex. divorce, age off parents insurance coverage) there are options available to employees and their families to maintain health coverage, including the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, or COBRA. It provides a way for you and your family to temporarily maintain your health insurance.

COBRA Enrollment Process

A COBRA Notice will be mailed to your home from our COBRA Administrator, Allied Benefit Systems, Inc. to continue your insurance coverage under COBRA. An example of the form is provided below.  Please note: Continuing insurance coverage under COBRA is optional.  

You and/or your covered dependent(s) have 60 days to enroll in COBRA.  Your insurance coverage under COBRA begins the first day following your insurance termination date regardless of when you submit your COBRA Election Form, please refer to your COBRA Notice for deadlines.  

Your COBRA Notice will include a COBRA Continuation Coverage Election Form.  The form includes a list of your terminated insurance election and the cost.  Complete the COBRA Election Form and mail it with your payment to the address listed on the form.  Please see the below example.  Allied Benefit System will process your payment and send an email notification to the insurance providers.  The insurance providers will reinstate your coverage as of the effective date.  This process can take 7-10 business days from the date you mail your election form and payment.  You will continue to use your current insurance card(s).  

Allied Benefit Systems, Inc. will mail COBRA Continuation Coverage Coupons to your home, You will mail the coupon and your payment to the address listed.   Please see the below example. To avoid disruption to your insurance coverage it is recommended you submit payment before the 1st of every month.
