About Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality (VR) reinvent the way we communicate, experience gaming and other forms of entertainment, and transform industries such as healthcare, architecture, retail, and e-commerce. Students will gain hands-on experience designing virtual environments, using 3D rendering software, previewing projects on VR headsets, and programming user interactions. This is an introductory course that requires no prior experience in VR, Modeling, or programming.

VR at Stevenson High School uses the Unreal Engine for development and Meta Quest 2 headsets for testing.

Course Projects

VR Building Design

This introductory project will give an overview of the Unreal Engine as well as how transformation tools are used to adjust objects and create a building. Students will then use VR properties within UE to navigate the building a create a VR based

VR Immersive Design

Students will create a VR project designed to immerse the player in a new world. Students can create a relaxing nature walk, a haunted trail, or anything in between. This project focuses on using the UE landscape tool, static meshes, and audio effects to create an immersive experience.

VR Game Design

Students create a game focusing on using VR mechanics to manipulate objects and keep track how many times a player can complete a goal. This open ended challenge introduces the concepts of collision tracking, counting, and outputting feedback to the player.

Final VR Project

Students are given time to create a VR project of their choice. This could be a game, simulation, educational, or other type of VR experience they want to design. This project is intended to uses skills developed throughout the course, but also give students the opportunity to learn mechanics specific to their project.
