Course Description
Sixth grade Spanish introduces students to the four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. We will establish a strong foundation and promote future success. Topics include basic conversational phrases, colors, numbers, days of the week/months and verb conjugation. At home reviewing of vocabulary words and grammar concepts are a must!!
Classroom Expectations
We need to work together to create a positive environment that is exciting, engaging, respectful, thought provoking, and conducive to learning. The specific rules for our classroom are:
Be present and ready to learn when the bell rings
Bring materials needed to complete homework + an independent reading book to enjoy when your homework is complete
Stay on task and in our own workspace
Work without disturbing the other learners in our community
Treat supplies, equipment, and furniture as intended
Remain seated until dismissed by the teacher (not the bell).
Grading Policy
You will earn grades in the following categories:
★ Academic Behavior (25%)
★ Formative (25%)
★ Summative (50%)
**There is NO extra credit. You may, however, retake/re-do/correct
Summative Reassessment Policy
When can I request a reassessment?
If you scored below a 80% on a summative assessment and have met the expectations outlined below.
If you scored below a 70%, you will need to do some relearning .
What can I earn with a reassessment?
You can earn up to an 89% for a summative reassessment.
***Please remember, granting a retake will be at teacher discretion. This is based on what will best promote growth for you!
Before a reassessment is granted by your teacher:
You must have all classwork and homework from the unit completed by the day of the summative assessment.
During the unit, your behavior in class must be on-task and non-distracting a majority of the time in order for the retake to be granted.
Process once a retake has been granted:
Step 1: You must turn in a reassessment sheet to reflect on where improvement is needed. Due dates are to be determined by your teacher. Failure to meet the due dates may mean you do not get to retake.
Step 2: Complete any independent relearning tasks needed.
Attend any required teacher appointments. These times are set by the teacher and take precedence over after school activities. If you fail to attend meetings (ex: working lunch, focused 10th, teacher meetings), you might not be able to continue the retake process.
Step 3: The reassessment must be completed within 10 days after an assessment is returned.
Quiz Policy
I give you the quizzes in advance (Quia Practice Quizzes) so use those study tools and come prepared for the quiz.
Class Assignments/Late work
For the most part, enough class time will be given for you to complete all assignments inside of class if you stay on task and are trying hard. If for some reason you do not complete the class assignment within the given timeframe, it may become homework. This does not happen frequently and is usually due to absences or off task behavior. Generally speaking, the only homework in this class will be studying and reviewing at home.
When you are absent, it is your responsibility to get missed work or notes and to fill out your behavior log. If you have questions about the missed notes and/or the assignment, please see me before or after class. You have as many days as you were absent to turn in the missed work. Please email me when late assignments are completed. Work turned in after the chapter is finished or the quarter-end-due-date will not earn any credit. If you missed at test or a quiz, please email me about when you should make it up
Study Tips
Studying for a foreign language is different and can be more challenging than studying for other subjects due to the amount of vocabulary words and grammar topics that need to be remembered. To help, I prepared a list of tips. Find a couple that work for you.
Study on a regular basis. (Almost every night about 3-5 words)
Use Quia, Quizlet & Gimkit to play the games for the chapter!! You can also use other on-line resources for help or practice. Just visit my webpage for some helpful websites or Google the topic!
Study out loud or with a friend.
Write out the material you need to learn.
Divide your study into small units of time. (A couple of ½ hour sessions)
Test yourself. Dry erase boards work great!
Use mnemonic devices or crazy phrases to help remember.
Make flashcards.
Try acting out words.
Bathroom/Water fountain/Locker
Please use the restroom and get a drink before class begins. If you have a health issue or it is an emergency, please let me know. You are allowed 3 passes per quarter to use for water/restroom/locker.
