Querer & Preferir
The verb querer means “to want”. The verb preferir means to prefer, Some -ir and -er verbs are irregular. There is a slight change in the stem (the part of the verb minus the er/ir ending) from e to ie in all conjugations except for nosotros/asand vosotros/as. A verb with this type of change is called a"stem-changing verb." Since the change does not occur in the nosotros/as or vosotros/as forms, this verb could also be called a "shoe or boot verb." Look at the forms that stem change. Can you see the "shoe/boot" shape?
