Team Update

Hi Nichols Families-

We hope you've gotten the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful weather the last couple of days! It's been a busy week, especially with the beginning of our C3 period. Students were asked to sign up for clubs or communities to try out this week. Today, they decided whether they wanted to stick with them again next week or try something new. A great conversation starter with your student could be asking them what they did for C3 and what they thought of it!

Next week, students will also be able to sign up for Connect blocks with their teachers. This is a wonderful opportunity to check in with teachers if they have missed school or if they need a bit more clarification.

Also, this is a reminder that we do not have school on Monday in observance of Yom Kippur.

Have a good long weekend!

Summary of Week 3:

Next Week

This week, students focused on linear patterns and wrote equations that modeled them. They also described the patterns as increasing or decreasing.  Students also took their first formative that helps us check their progress and plan our next steps.

Next week students will focus on non-linear patterns, specifically quadratic patterns.  See your student's Google Classroom for classwork, documents, and assignments.

Summary of Week 3:

Next Week

This week, students continued the Core bake Sale Cookie Problem by graphing two linear inequalities and analyzing the overlapping shaded area, called the feasible region.  Students also reviewd solving systems of equation.

Next week students will use these strategies to solve linear programming problems after taking their first formative.  See your student's Google Classroom for classwork, documents, and assignments.

Wellness: Project Adventure

This week in Project Adventure students continued to build community through a variety of different name games. Students focused on active participation and working with others for their learning targets. Some students also reached outside of their comfort zones in a game of speed charades!

Some cooperative games we played this week are:

Humanities

Hello families!

In our humanities class this week, students completed their second assessment on our evidence learning target. Students can expect to receive feedback on their second assessment next week. Throughout the year, they will be monitoring their learning progress by tracking their assessment scores in a portfolio.

When your student talks to you about their assessment scores, you should not be concerned if their current scores are lower than what you might have expected. This is all part of the learning process, and we are committed to developing these skills over the course of the year. We are confident that every student will be able to achieve level 3 proficiency in all of our targets by the end of the year.

On Friday of this week, students presented flowcharts that they created as a group. These flowcharts demonstrated the cause-and-effect connections they made surrounding 9/11. It was inspiring to witness students grappling with the complicated intricacies of the unit.

On October 2nd, students will be giving speeches about the 9/11 experiences of the adults they interviewed. We strongly encourage students to rehearse their speeches out loud in the comfort of their homes throughout the upcoming week. It's important to recognize that feeling nervous about public speaking is a completely normal reaction, and we want to help students be as successful as possible with their first public speaking assessment. A lot of at-home practice is one way for them to gain more confidence.
