Team Update

Hi Nichols families!

It's hard to believe that we're already a couple weeks into the school year! We've been really enjoying getting to know all of our Nichols students. They have been settling in and getting to know our routines so well!

We also had our field trip to Mount Philo today. Students got the opportunity to hike together, and then we engaged in some fun team building activites at the top. When we got back, we enjoyed playing games on our fields. It's great to see students starting to connect with each other and form friendships. Please check in with your student about how the day went and how they're feeling about 9th grade so far. Please reach out to us if your student seems to be struggling to make connections or really get started in 9th grade. We want to set every student up for success in high school and would be happy to help!

Summary of Week 2:

Next Week

This week, students analyzed more tile patterns. They described the patterns as increasing or decreasing and linear or nonlinear.  Students also began exploring writing equations that model each pattern.

Next week students will continue to explore generalizing the patterns using algebraic structures and expressions.  See your student's Google Classroom for classwork, documents, and assignments.

Summary of Week 2:

Next Week

This week, students created and graphed linear inequalities that modeled situations. Students explored the meaning of the shaded region and the meaning of the coordinates in and out of the region.

Next week students will continue to explore the Core Bake Sale by graphing systems of linear inequalities.  See your student's Google Classroom for classwork, documents, and assignments.

Wellness: Project Adventure

This week in Project Adventure students continued to build community through a variety of different name games. Students focused on active participation and working with others for their learning targets. Some students also reached outside of their comfort zones in a game of speed charades!

Some cooperative games we played this week are:

Humanities

Hello families!

In humanities this week we wrapped up the roots of 9/11 and started our understanding of the War on Terror. The focus will be on history of the last 22 years and the unanticipated consequence of the War on Terror.

We had our first assessment this week on Evidence and it was centered around the war in Afghanistan. Students will be receiving their scores and feedback on this target in class on Monday. You should not be concerned if the current scores are lower than what students or parents might have expected. This is all part of the learning process, and we are committed to developing these skills over the course of the year. We are confident that every student will be able to achieve level 3 proficiency in all of our targets by the end of the year.

Over the weekend students will be encouraged to reach out to an adult in their life to conduct a 9/11 interview.
