Math 1: Mark Pogact

Summary of Week 31:

Next Week

This week students reviewed and practice solving systems using the substitution method. This topic is really the culmination of all of the algebra that students have learned and practiced over the years such as combining like terms, the distributive property, and solving equations.

Next week, students will be introduced to the strategy called elimination, to solve systems.  See your student's Google Classroom for classwork, documents, and assignments.

Math 2

Summary of Week 31:

Next Week

This week, students reviewed converting quadratic equations to each of the three forms. Then students took a summative on that skill. Students decided that they wanted to take the summative for this unit's skills in chunks rather than in one big test during wrap up week.  So we will be having summative assessments every Thursday for the next few weeks.

Next week, students review and take summative on solving quadratic equations by undoing and factoring. See your student's Google Classroom for classwork, documents, and assignments.

Humanities

This week in social studies, we delved into our final unit of the year, which is an exploration of philosophy. We examined the philosophies of Emmanuel Kant and John Stuart Mill and how they relate to different ethical dilemmas, such as the classic Trolley problem and a lifeboat scenario. The students had some truly engaging discussions around these topics. Next week, we'll be shifting our focus to Socrates and Plato, with an emphasis on Plato's Allegory of the Cave.

All students received their final discussion and evidence assessments back and have final summative scores in Jumprope representing their work on these two targets.

In English we started a unit on short stories, poetry, and strengthening our close reading skills. Our students read and analyzed "The Rose That Grew From Concrete" by Tupac Shakur and "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson. Students also recieved their scores for their Just Mercy essays. Any students who want to revise these should schedule a connect with Sarah.
