This will be my 29th year as a Special Educator, Consulting Teacher, and Learning Specialist. I received my bachelor’s degree from Plymouth State College in Interdisciplinary Studies in both Outdoor Education and Business Management. I then went on to earn my Masters degree in Special Education from St. Michael’s College. My post-graduate work began with pursuing my PhD from Northwestern University in the area of Exceptional Student Education. For the last several years I have been in school leadership roles serving in the capacity of supporting school growth in special education. I have lived in Vermont for the vast majority of my life. I have two amazing children of my own and two wonderful step children. I’m so grateful to also be a grandmother to two amazing toddlers! In my free time I love to do anything outside; alpine ski, hike, garden, and mountain bike. I also love to read, create pottery and other art, listen to live music, and most of all to spend time with my family. We have a snuggly Boston Terrier and a fluffy tiger cat that keep me busy too!

Hello! My name is Chiara Maltese, and I am excited to be joining the Special Education team at Allen Brook School, working with the kindergarten team. I have previously worked at the American School of Bombay in Mumbai, India, with PreK, Kindergarten, and 1st graders as a Special Education teacher and before that was based in Portland, OR, where I taught in a few different positions around the city, including as a full- immersion classroom teacher and a coach. I love the energy of working with younger children, and am excited to meet all the children and staff at Allen Brook. When I am not at work I am often outside with my husband Bruce and daughter Petra, we love to explore, cook, create all kinds of things, and are excited to be new homeowners in the Burlington area.
