I am a Speech Language Pathologist for grades kindergarten-8 at Shelburne Community School. I received my undergraduate degree in Teacher of Speech and Handicapped from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY and my Master’s degree in Communication Sciences from the University of Vermont. I have worked in many schools around the state and have been working at SCS since 2004. I love working with students to enhance their communication effectiveness whether it be producing a new speech sound, learning new language concepts or producing a message on an AAC device. I also enjoy collaborating with colleagues to ensure all students are successful in their classrooms. I have had the privilege of supervising graduate students from UVM and guest lecturing at UNH Durham about AAC. Outside of work, I am a busy mom of three! I spend a lot of time watching my kids pursue their passions: hockey, lacrosse, baseball, soccer and horseback riding. During the summer, our family enjoys kayaking and hiking.
I am the speech-language pathologist for half of the teams in grades K-8. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Biology from St. Michael’s College, and my Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology (Communication Sciences) from the University of Vermont. Being able to effectively communicate is incredibly important for everyone. Therefore, I find it very interesting to identify the discrete skills that affect someone’s overall communication system, and to watch them make gains in the language based skills. I also enjoy spending time with family (my wife and two kids) and friends, and love spending time outdoors. I especially love backcountry skiing and mountain biking.
I am the speech-language pathologist for grades K-5 at CCS and SCS. I received my M.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Vermont in 2016. I work with students on speech articulation, listening comprehension, oral expression, fluency, and social communication, 1:1, in small groups, and in the classroom. One of my favorite things about being an SLP in elementary school is that I learn so much from the students!
My role is to help identify where students may have difficulty in areas related to speech or language and give them the support they need to improve their skills. I live in Burlington with my son and daughter, who are mostly patient about letting me borrow their games and art supplies!
I am very excited to work at Shelburne Community School as a middle school Special Educator. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Hobart and William Smith College in Geneva, NY and my Master’s of Education from the University of Vermont. I currently hold Special Education as well as Elementary Teaching Certifications. I started my work with children as a Paraprofessional in an alternative behavior program. Before coming to SCS I was a Special Educator at Missisquoi Valley Union Middle School, where I discovered my love of working with the middle-school population. Helping every student recognize themselves as a valuable member of their learning community is extremely important to me and I am proud that I get to do this work everyday! I am from the Adirondacks in upstate NY and grew up loving nature and adventure. I’ve lived in Vermont since 2011 and have come to call this state my “home”. In my free time I like to hike, camp, snowshoe, practice yoga, dance, and spend time with friends and family.
My name is Annie Dunn and I feel lucky and honored to be a special educator at SCS. Everyday I have the opportunity to work closely with a variety of children with the goal of helping each one reach their highest potential. I enjoy choosing curricula that is specific to individual needs while providing a personal learning space that fosters an environment in which children feel safe to take risks and challenge themselves. I pride myself in bringing kindness and a sense of humor to each and every lesson and continually look forward to witnessing each student flourish.
Hello! My name is Meghan Bustamantes and I am a Special Educator here at Shelburne Community School. I started working at Shelburne in 2013 and I have loved being a part of the SCS community. Before coming to Shelburne, I worked in Burlington for many years as a paraprofessional. I completed my teaching licensure from St. Michael’s College and have been working in Shelburne ever since. When I am not at school, I am likely out and about exploring with my husband or walking our toy poodle, Iris.
Hi, my name is Lindsay and I am proud to be a special educator at Shelburne Community School! I am originally from New York, but after receiving my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and my master's degree in Special Education at UVM, I couldn't bring myself to leave Vermont. Before starting my job as a special educator at SCS, I worked as a paraprofessional with students with complex behavioral challenges. I believe in inclusive and socially just education and that we all learn from one another. I love that I get to collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure that lessons and activities are accessible to all different types of learners. When I'm not at school I can usually be found practicing yoga, hiking with my dog, listening to live music, or eating at one of the many great Burlington restaurants.
Hi! My name is Kristin Funsten and I am a 5/6 Special Educator at SCS. I grew up in Los Alamos, New Mexico and decided to move to Vermont to receive my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Elementary Education at Saint Michael’s College. I fell in love with Vermont, decided to stay, then went on and received my Master’s of Education. You can often find me hiking, snowboarding, playing soccer, going for a run alongside the lake, and spending time with family and friends. Teaching has always been a passion of mine. I strive to create a safe and fun learning environment that helps every child progress in all areas of development. I am so lucky to be at Shelburne Community School and am very grateful that I get to do this work everyday!
