I was born and spent my early childhood in New Jersey, and then I moved to beautiful Vermont in fifth grade. I graduated from Williston Central and CVU High School (go hawks). To obtain a lifetime dream of becoming a teacher, I graduated from SUNY at Geneseo, an excellent teacher college, and returned home to Vermont to be close to my family and friends. I love getting outside, hiking, backpacking, camping, and soaking up the sun at the beach. My education philosophy is to create a safe and inspiring learning environment so students can prosper. Two fun facts about me are that I love to paint and do sudoku

I am a kindergarten Special Educator at Allen Brook Elementary School in Williston, VT. As a kindergarten special educator I co-teach with classroom teachers and provide 1:1 and small group instruction. I love seeing how children learn and grow throughout the school year, especially at such a developmental year in their lives.
Prior to my time at Allen Brook I spent 13 years as an educator in the Burlington School District. During this time I worked as a special educator for 2nd/3rd graders and as a 4th/5th grade classroom teacher. In 2002 I graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in Elementary Education and in 2007 received my Master’s in Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Vermont. During the past two years I’ve taken courses through the Vermont Higher Education Collaborative and the University of Vermont to complete my special education endorsement.
When I am not in Williston, I am enjoying time with my family, my dog Lucy and being outdoors. I love watching the changing of Vermont’s seasons and learning about new places and people.

Hello! My name is Chiara Maltese, and I am excited to be joining the Special Education team at Allen Brook School, working with the kindergarten team. I have previously worked at the American School of Bombay in Mumbai, India, with PreK, Kindergarten, and 1st graders as a Special Education teacher and before that was based in Portland, OR, where I taught in a few different positions around the city, including as a full- immersion classroom teacher and a coach. I love the energy of working with younger children, and am excited to meet all the children and staff at Allen Brook. When I am not at work I am often outside with my husband Bruce and daughter Petra, we love to explore, cook, create all kinds of things, and are excited to be new homeowners in the Burlington area.
