Financial Aid
Steps For Financial Aid
Apply! Use FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application, depending on your status. Starting October 1 and by March 2nd for Cal Grant eligibility, but the earlier the better!!!! Check FAFSA/CADAA page for more info!
Note: some private colleges may ask you to complete a CSS profile. Only fill this out if they require it. Guide to completing CSS profile: https://www.goingmerry.com/blog/css-profile/
Once you receive your SAR (Student Aid Report), you can go back in and make changes (including adding more schools), or check your Cal Grant status on WebGrants.
Apply for scholarships through the university websites, private scholarship sites, and CVEF scholarship website. (CVEF scholarships are for Castro Valley students only and will be available in late January).
How Does Financial Aid Work?
Cost of Attendance
- Estimated Family Contribution (EFC)
= NEED
Financial Aid is to help families meet the NEED
How to find the cost of attendance for universities?
Use the Net Price Calculator available on each university website.
Apply with FAFSA or CADAA.
What if my financial status changed in 2021 due to COVID-19 or other?
You still need to enter 2020 information for FAFSA/CADAA. Then you contact the financial aid office at college(s) you/your student are considering and let them know. They can make adjustments and provide an updated financial aid award.
