We invite aspiring researchers, archivists and curators who wish to participate in a 6-month long incubation program to submit a proposal to co-create an archive of the pandemic in India. The intention is to enable selected participants to document and archive diverse experiences unfolding on the ground through community engagement. Participants are encouraged to work across different mediums and languages. The output from these different projects will be consolidated in the form of a digital public archive.

Milli is a consortium of individuals and communities interested in the nurturing of archives. Archives enable diverse stories. This aim guides the work of the consortium, the purpose, form and content of an archive, and what environments it could nourish in the future. Milli helps individuals and institutions to build and sustain archives. It facilitates discussions among the community around issues of diversity, archival standards, conservation, physical and digital access, pedagogy, privacy and the development of inclusive description standards. The digital platform for Milli will allow the public to find, describe and share archival material and stories.

To create a public archive of the Covid-19 pandemic in India, it is necessary to critically think about the roles of an archivist during crises and challenges of preserving ephemeral experiences. The first workshop in this series intends to serve as a platform for interested participants to engage, collaborate and immerse themselves on issues related to archiving and curating the collective memories of the pandemic. We invite participants with basic knowledge about archiving and who are passionate about cultural preservation, to work with us in creating and preserving this crowdsourced archival collection.
