The ACT (American College Test) is the most commonly used assessment in our area.

The ACT assesses students in English, Mathematics, Reading, Science, and Writing.

Benchmark Scores for College Entrance:  English-18, Mathematics-22, Reading-22, Science-23, and Writing-No Minimum  (Max Score = 36)

Scholarship Consideration:  Colleges/Universities look at the student's Composite Score (overall average) to determine scholarship eligibility.  In most cases, merit scholarship awards begin at a 24.  If you are looking for a significant merit scholarship offer, you should aim to attain a score of 28 or higher.

Students who plan to go to college after high school should take the ACT 3-4 times before the fall of their senior year.  Merit scholarships are based on your ACT score and GPA.

The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is used across the United States as a college entrance exam.

Students who plan to apply to colleges/universities outside of Alabama may need to take the SAT.

The SAT assesses students in Reading, Writing and Language, and Mathematics.

Scholarship Consideration:  In most cases, merit scholarship awards begin at around a 1200.  If you are looking for a significant merit scholarship offer, you should aim to attain a score of 1300 or higher.

Students who plan to go to college after high school should take the SAT multiple times before the fall of their senior year.  Taking the exam multiple times gives you the advantage of knowing what to expect and what areas to improve on before your next attempt.
