How to set up the Duo Mobile App (recommended!)

This section describes how to install and set up the Duo Mobile App on your smartphone. This is the best way to use Duo, and is the method we strongly recommend that you use.

Be sure to have your smartphone at hand. As part of the steps below, you will install the Duo mobile app from your device's app store.

Step-by-Step: Duo Mobile App

  1. Find the enrollment email from no-reply@duosecurity.com with subject "Duo Security Enrollment" in your Cardinal Mail inbox.

  2. Click on the provided duosecurity.com link in the body of the message to start the setup.

    • NOTE: The link in the message is valid for 30 days only.

3. Click the green “Start Setup” button.

4. Choose the device type you will be using. In this case select “Mobile phone”, the recommended option.

5. Click the “Continue” button.

6. Provide the phone number affiliated with your smartphone.

7. To confirm your phone number, check the check-box next to "Is this the correct number?"

8. Click the “Continue” button.

9. Select type of your phone.

10. Once selected, click on the “Continue” button.

11. The next step is to install the Duo Mobile app on your smartphone.

12. Follow the Duo Mobile installation instructions shown on your web page. (The sample image here is for iPhone.)

13. Once Duo Mobile app is installed on your smartphone, open the app.

14. Select “ADD ACCOUNT” at the bottom of the app screen.

15. Go back to your computer and press the green “I have Duo Mobile installed” button.

16. Use your smart phone's camera to scan the QR Code shown on your computer screen by following the instructions on your web page.

17. When the scan is successful, the QR code will gray out and have a check mark.

18. Click the green “Continue” button.

19. Your Duo Mobile App will now display a “Catholic University of America” tab.

    • Allow the Duo App to send you “Notifications.”

    • This will allow the app to send a notification to your phone - works like a text message notification.

    • Notifications are sent only when access to Cardinal Financials is being requested.

20. On your computer, choose the verification method to use.

21. Choose a default authentication method when logging in:

    • Automatically send this device a Duo Push - a Duo push notification will be automatically initiated to your device when you want to login. This is the recommended method.

    • Ask me to choose an authentication method. You will be able to switch between authentication methods by specifying which one you want to use at logon time. To learn more about the different authentication methods see Duo Authentication Methods.

    • Automatically call this device - a phone call will be automatically initiated to your device when you want to login. No option to use Duo push will be provided.

22. Once chosen, click the blue “Finish Enrollment” button.

23. Congratulations, you are now enrolled in Duo and are ready to go!

How to set up Duo for a landline or feature Phone Callback

This section provides step-by-step instructions to set up Duo to call your device, typically used with your office telephone set. However, this option can also be used for calls to your cell phone.

Step-by-Step: Phone call

  1. Find the enrollment email from no-reply@duosecurity.com with subject "Duo Security Enrollment" in your Cardinal Mail inbox.

  2. Click on the provided duosecurity.com link in the body of the message to start the setup.

    • NOTE: The link is valid for 30 days only.

3. Click the green “Start Setup” button.

4. Select Landline as the device type (use this same option if you want the system to call your cell phone).

5. Click the “Continue” button.

6. Enter the phone number to be called by the system.

7. Confirm your phone number by checking the check box next to "Is this the correct number?"

8. Click the "Continue" button.

9. Choose a default authentication method when logging in:

    • Ask me to choose an authentication method. You will be able to switch between authentication methods by specifying which one you want to use at logon time. To learn more about the different authentication methods see Duo Authentication Methods.

    • Automatically call this device - a phone call will be automatically initiated to your device when you want to login. No option to use Duo push will be provided.

10. Click the blue “Finish Enrollment” button.


23. Congratulations, you are now enrolled in Duo and are ready to go!
