Course Description: CTECS Art Curriculum
This course focuses on a variety of painting techniques using various media such as watercolor, gouache, tempera, acrylics, pastels, ink wash, collage and mixed media. Color theory will be emphasized, along with composition, art history and art appreciation. Students will be able to make connections between their finished work and that of various artists and art movements in history. Sketchbooks are required for idea development and for both visual and verbal responses to artwork.
Grading Policy:
Aligning with the National Core Arts Standards, found here, students will be assessed based on the main areas of the artistic process.
Creating: 50%
Studio Habits: 30%
Connecting/Responding: 20%
End of Semester Goals: (Students will be able to)
Learn to develop ideas and find inspiration.
Develop and refine their art skills (composition, color theory, etc.).
Write about/reflect on their own artwork (artist statement) and the work of others (critiques/essays).
Research artists/art history.
Use & properly care for art materials and the art room.
Develop a portfolio of personal artwork.
