The National Core Arts Standards (NCAS) identify the learning that is wanted for all of our students and to helps drive improvement in the system that delivers that learning. The concepts of NCAS are framed by artistic literacy, lifelong goals, and artistic processes.
While broad in concept, the standards are focused on only four artistic processes: Creating, Presenting, Responding, and Connecting. These processes are what artists do and what we want for our students as they become artistically literate citizens. By focusing on the process of artistic learning and not the product, the emphasis is placed on deeper learning in the visual arts creating higher expectations that support career, college, and citizenship readiness for all students.
