Grade 8 students will read two books this summer and complete the Book Jacket Project (see instructions below). Students will also take a test over The Hound of the Baskervilles the 1st Friday of school.
Whether you choose to listen to an audio of the book or read it for yourself, make sure that you secure a physical copy (not digital) of the first book listed. You are expected to bring your copy (only the first book listed) to class on the first day of school. Your copy can be new or used. Please check the ISBN to make sure you secure the correct edition.
2. Students may select any book of their choice and complete the Book Jacket Project. The project is due the first day of school and to be turned in to their English teacher.
Book Jacket Project: Complete for the Student-Selected Book
Make a new book jacket for the book. Think about the settings, characters, and big events. Make it unique. IT SHOULD NOT LOOK LIKE THE ORIGINAL COVER. 11x17 construction paper works great!
● Front cover: Draw and color an illustration for the book, including the title and the author’s name.
● Inside front flap: Write a brief description of the main character and include a hand-drawn illustration
● Inside back flap: About the Author: Do a little research on the author and provide a short paragraph (30-50 words) on who the author is. Please do not copy from the book. That is plagiarism and will result in a zero. Include an illustration of the author.
● Back cover: Write a short summary of the book, but don’t spoil it and give everything away! (50-100 words) Please do not copy from the book. That is plagiarism and will result in a zero. Also include 2-3 quotes that review the book positively. You can make up people to say the quote, or you can ask classmates who read the book how they would review it, and include their names.
