We are excited to invite Grades 3–5 families to join in this year’s family read-aloud: Mr. Popper’s Penguins! This delightful and humorous classic follows the unexpected adventures of Mr. Popper and his lively troupe of penguins, offering families a chance to laugh together, spark imagination, and reflect on themes of creativity, responsibility, and adaptability. We strongly encourage families to set aside time to enjoy this read-aloud experience, using it as a springboard for conversation, connection, and the shared joy of a great story.
Grade 4 will independently read 2 books and complete the Creative Reports Project using the titles listed below (see instructions below):
James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl
ISBN: 978-0142410363
AND
CTCS Summer Reading 2025: Grade 4 Creative Reports Project
Using the required independent reading titles, students will complete a Creative Reports Project.
Directions: Parents, please determine an appropriate point goal for your student based on their ability and your summer schedule. Write the point goal you select in the blank on the linked worksheet. You may only do one of each item (you cannot craft 5 collages to meet your goal), but you may do more than one from any category (you CAN craft 1 collage and a setting design). To read more about your options, click here.
Your projects will be due on the day you return to school. Please be sure you know which activities you must present and prepare accordingly. Most importantly, have fun with this and be creative.
