Open Text Transcription Editing Resource (OTTER)
Open Text Transcription Editing Resource (OTTER)
OTTER is a local-first desktop application that allows users to edit audio by interacting directly with a transcript instead of waveforms. Users can modify text, such as deleting, rearranging, or inserting breaks, and the system applies those changes to the audio in a non-destructive way. The system is built using Electron and TypeScript, with a backend that handles saving and loading transcript data. Key features include transcript highlighting, search, editing, and persistent changes, where edits like breaklines are saved and correctly restored when the transcript is reloaded. This project demonstrates a more intuitive and privacy-focused approach to editing spoken audio, especially for use cases like podcasts, lectures, and interviews.
