The College of Business at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) is pleased to announce a significant milestone for our Agribusiness Supply Chain Management (ASCM) degree program.
This fall (2024), we will initiate a "soft launch" of the ASCM program with eight transfer students from Hartnell College. These students are beneficiaries of a $9.5 million “Learn to Lead” grant from the USDA. This partnership aims to develop and sustain the future workforce in food and agriculture sciences through:
Student Scholarships
Experiential Learning
Outreach and Engagement Projects
The objectives are to engage, recruit, retain, train, and support students, ensuring the continued growth of the food and agriculture workforce. Further details about the grant can be found here.
The eight transfer students will initially enroll at CSUMB as Business Majors with a concentration in Agribusiness. They are expected to be formally recognized as ASCM majors by Fall 2025 and to graduate with degrees in Agribusiness Supply Chain Management starting in Spring 2026.
Dr. Lesli Boni, Chair of the College of Business, has been diligently updating the curriculum document for the BS-ASCM major and its two concentrations. The draft, outlining course topics, targeted skills, and related job opportunities, has been submitted to and approved by the California State University Chancellor’s Office.
The ASCM Program Director position will be a year-round appointment, a departure from the typical 9-month faculty appointments. Recruitment for this role will commence in the upcoming fall, with the goal of filling the position by the start of the Spring Semester 2025.
Future Student Recruitment
The ASCM degree program will be listed in the CSUMB Catalog, making it available for application by incoming freshmen and transfer students starting October 2025. One of the Program Director’s primary responsibilities will be to recruit students from local high schools and community colleges.
We are excited about the progress and future prospects of the ASCM program and look forward to sharing more updates in the coming year. This update reflects our continued commitment to excellence in education and workforce development within the food and agriculture sectors. We extend our gratitude to all our supporters and partners for their unwavering dedication and support.
Masters of Science in Accounting – Analytics Focus (MSA-AF) – This advanced online graduate program in accounting with an analytics focus is designed to meet the increased demand for graduate education in accounting due to new requirements in California for Certified Public Accounting (CPA) applicants, and the technology developments in data analytics, or "big data". These developments require accountants to have sufficient knowledge of data analytics and related technologies to allow them to work with large enterprise databases, statistical tools, and exploratory data visualization tools.
