The 'Students for Startups' program at CSU Monterey Bay's Institute for Innovation and Economic Development (iiED) engaged students as interns to support local community members in launching businesses and nonprofits. This year, through the Monterey County Gives campaign, they successfully raised $11,200 towards their goal of $27,000.
This innovative internship program provided students with invaluable hands-on experience while making significant contributions to entrepreneurial journeys in the community. Student interns helped organize educational events, develop logos, websites, and marketing materials, set up financial tracking systems, assist with hiring processes, and undertake other vital activities essential for business success.
The Institute for Innovation and Economic Development, housed within the College of Business, will use this award to provide essential resources to potential entrepreneurs from underserved and isolated communities in South Monterey County and the Central Coast. Pinnacle Bank of Salinas sponsored iiED's application for the award.
From March 13-14th, #OttersGive was a 24-hour online fundraiser that united the CSUMB community—students, alumni, faculty, staff, parents, friends, and locals. Supporters were encouraged to contribute to a program or area they were passionate about. Diamond Key and iiED were the College of Business programs that participated in this year's Day of Giving.
