This is a general course that focuses on the scientific principles that underlie the breeding and husbandry of agricultural animals. Through the use of CASE curriculum, students will study animal anatomy, physiology, behavior, nutrition, reproduction, health, selection, and marketing. Students will also learn about the production, processing, and distribution of agricultural animal products. This course prepares students to pass the Youth Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) certification.

Plant Science is a general course that focuses on the scientific principles that underlie the breeding, cultivation, and production of agricultural plants. Students learn about careers in plant science, roots, soils, media, anatomy and physiology, plant nutrients, landscaping, and various plant growing environments. Instruction through the CASE curriculum in the plant sciences includes crop cultivation, agricultural production, and the processing of agricultural and food products. Students are expected to apply their learning in the school’s greenhouse to assist in plant production for the school’s April plant sale.

This course exposes students to the mechanical, power, and technological career options in the world of agriculture. Through exciting hands-on activities, projects, and problems, students will come to understand material properties, acquire the basic skills to safely operate tools and machinery, repair and engineer equipment, and design structural components. In the CASE curriculum, students will learn to apply real-world engineering principles that a mechanic, technician, or engineer might face in the construction and operation of machines and structures while making applied connections between math, science, and technical skills.

Students will be introduced to the safe use of tools and equipment while operating in a wood/metal shop. Students will gain hands-on experience working on woodworking projects and/or welding projects utilizing highly technical skilled techniques. Students will learn to use precision measurement to read and draw to scale within 1/16” accuracy and they will be taught the basic welding skills and knowledge to effectively weld using the processes of SMAW (arc) and gas (oxy-acetylene) welding. With advanced technique, performance and instructor permission, students may be allowed to enhance their skills through self-selected projects. This course prepares students to pass a variety of American Welding Society (AWS) certifications.
