The Rhythm of Life
1. What do you notice in this work of art?
2. One rhythm of life has to do with work and rest. For some people, their identity and worth come from their ability to be productive and effective at work. How can a break from work encourage and restore an area of your identity and worth?
3. Choose a or b below:
a. “We humans have lost the wisdom of genuinely resting and relaxing. We worry too much. We don’t allow our bodies to heal, and we don’t allow our minds and hearts to heal” (Thich Nhat Hanh). Describe times when it is hard for you to rest.
b. In Exodus 20:8-11, God commanded Israel to do no work on the seventh day of the week. How do you think a time for rest and worship could bring you new energy?
4. The painting above shows children at play. Play is the opposite of productivity. What kinds of things do you do for enjoyment, for no other reason than the pleasure they give? Draw or act out how you play.
