The CERT program provides training in fire safety, light search and rescue, medical triage, wound care, emergency preparedness, and the psychology of a disaster. We learn to help others until trained emergency personnel arrive.
We can assist emergency responders by identifying and anticipating hazards, offering potential workforce for help with crowd control, evacuation and shelter support.
Non-disaster participation and help includes building relationships with the community and emergency responders. We also assist with community emergency plans, neighborhood activities and exercises, preparedness outreach, fire safety education and workplace safety.
Who should take the CERT training?
Anyone interested in learning about emergency preparedness and safety for their family, and people interested in taking an active role in community preparedness: Parents, Neighborhood Watch Groups, Students, Teachers and Administrators, Faith Communities, Youth Organizations, Community Leaders, Members of Clubs and Civic Organizations.
Some people take the training because they want to know how to take care of themselves. Others are interested in taking an active role in community preparedness. Both are equally important. Age and mobility limitations are not a barrier to taking the training; there are things people can do to help that do not include lifting or physical activity. Having the knowledge of how to prepare both yourself and your environment can increase your confidence and peace of mind.
Participants must be age 16 and over to participate in the 20 hour program.
