Emergency shelters helps communities provide a safe and secure place for individuals and families to stay before, during and/or after a disaster. CERT volunteers may be tasked with operating a shelter during an evacuation in Clark County, especially during wildfire season.
The Red Cross will always be CRESA's first call for sheltering; however, the need for their services is increasing across the country, and they may not be available. CERT volunteers will then be asked to fill this need. This training is being taught to Red Cross standards and in alignment with Red Cross practices as they meet the needs of our community. The forms used for documentation are from the Red Cross.

Anyone who needs services (food, a bed, assistance) is a Client. All Clients must sign in when they arrive. When leaving, even temporarily, they need to sign out.
For those Clients who need a place to sleep.
If a Client needs additional assistance, i.e. medical care/equipment. This will be followed up on by someone else.
Provide to all Clients.
A Visitor is anyone who does NOT need services the shelter has to offer, i.e. a politician, an official, etc.
A variety of items and equipment will be needed to set-up and run a shelter. It's important to keep track of where the items came from so they may be returned to the appropriate owner when the shelter is dismantled.
