When you are contacted to help with an emergency situation in Clark County, all communication will lead off with the words "Activation Notification". What does that mean and how will it work?
By Phone: Calls will come from the Program Manager’s cell phone (360-450-8348) or the CRESA Duty Officer phone number (360-562-0130). Please add these phone numbers to your list of contacts.
CRESA Emergency Management Coordinators share the responsibility of Duty Officer so there is emergency management coverage 24 hours daily, seven days a week. Depending upon the circumstances, the Duty Officer may reach out to you with the deployment notification.
Upon hearing "Activation Notification", just listen!
You will be asked if you are available to respond to _____________.
This is a yes or no question. If you answer yes, additional information will be provided.
If you then feel you are not up to the task, please say so.
If no, you will be thanked, and the call terminated.
Please understand that time is of the essence and this call is not an opportunity for a detailed conversation.
By Email:
"Activation Notification" will be in the Subject Line. Again, depending upon circumstances, the email may be sent from an account that is not familiar to you. “Activation Notification” in the subject line will indicate it is a legitimate email.
Please read the message in its entirety. All available relevant information will be included.
Respond to what is asked. Watch for the potential request to respond to a different email address, instead of hitting Reply.
If you are not asked for a response, don't respond (do not email to say why you aren't available).
Requests for additional information, questions, etc. will probably be disregarded. If you are available to help, further instructions will be sent to you.
By Text:
If someone other than the Program Manager or CRESA Duty Officer will be contacting you, you will receive a text with “Activation Notification pending from (email / phone number).” Understand that you will be receiving a phone call or email from someone other than the CERT Program Manager or CRESA Duty Officer because of an urgent need. Answer the phone or respond to email accordingly.
What do you do if you are contacted to respond? Get prepared!
Have your PPE ready to go (green helmet, vest, eye protection, gloves, masks)
Dress for the weather. You may be indoors and/or outdoors. Long pants and closed-toe shoes at all times, please.
Is your phone charged?
Do you have some snacks and water?
You may need paper and pen for note taking
Wait for additional instructions
If you are being contacted, it is because the task is within the scope of your training and your help is needed. The ability to read and follow all instructions is key to your participation.
“Just in Time” training and additional instructions will be provided by the team lead on-site. If you do not understand or are uncomfortable with what is asked of you, please say so! Our volunteers are important to us, and we want your participation to be a positive experience.
