English Mental Health Project

Goal of the Assignment: To research a mental illness and provide an oral presentation to the class about it.

• I chose to focus on Schizophrenia to learn about how media has perpetuated fear around the illness

How it Fits the Learning Target: 

• Respect People as Individuals

  • People with schizophrenia are often feared or treated poorly

  • By researching this topic, I was able to learn how the fear perpetuated by the media is extreme cases and how people with schizophrenia are more often the victims of violence

• School and Global Communities

  • It has made me more understanding of people affected by mental illness both globally and in our school

  • Shown me how they may act differently as a result of their illness and to be more understanding of that idea
