Alternative Pesticide Project

Goal of the Assignment: To develop a way in which we can fight a pest problem without the use of unnatural and toxic pesticide

• This concept is called Integrated Pest Management (IPM), I chose to use biological controls in the forms of natural predators to control a harmful fly population

How it Fits the Learning Target: 

• Apply Skills

  • In our environmental science class we had been learning about the dangers and risks of using common pesticides in agriculture

  • We also had learned about IPM and natural ways to control pests within agriculture

• Lifetime of Health and Well-Being

  • Since pesticides have many drawbacks and health risks using IPM would eliminate those risks

  • This would lead to better public health

  • These concepts could also be applied in small scale for a home garden
