Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: I'm interested in an instrument not listed on this website, is there an opportunity for me to play other instruments at Lane Tech?

A: Yes! Contact info below:

Q: Where are instruments stored?

A: We have instrument lockers and locks in the band room. Every student has a safe place in the band room to store their personal or school-issued instrument; they do not need to keep it in their personal school locker.

Q: What if I can't afford the fees associated with joining band?

A: We are always happy to work with families to ensure that every student can be in band regardless of financial circumstance. Whether that means working out a payment plan or covering fees on our end, we simply ask that you communicate with us in order to best meet your needs.

Q: What happens if my rental instrument breaks during the school year?

A: The Band Department will cover repair fees for rented instruments at no additional cost. In the event that an instrument is damaged because of misuse or negligence, the student will be responsible for covering the repair cost. This will be decided on a case-by-case basis.

Q: Do I have to practice my instrument outside of class? What if I can't take my instrument home?

A: Practicing your instrument is your "homework" for band. This is the best way to improve as a musician. If you are unable to practice at home we have five practice rooms in the band room that are available before school, after school, and during lunch periods.

Q: Can I stay in the same band for more than one year?

A: With the only exception being Beginning Band, students can stay in an ensemble for as many years as they wish.
